Concussion linked to Depression in NFL
Here’s a contentious and unpopular post for the football lovers and players.
Concussion has been linked to Depression in NFL – along with cognitive impairment and early onset Alzheimers Disease.
And we already know of the connection between depression and sleep disorders, waking too early in the morning etc…
I know we don’t want to know about the stuff that the fabric of our culture is wrapped around… but!
Here, read it for yourself..
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/31/sports/football/31concussions.html
And if you want to go further with it, google up Dr Ann McKee, The Michigan Study, etc.
And just in case you think that helmets and head protectors are enough… there’s stuff on helmet to helmet contact too… mmm!
Reminds me of something I heard recently about very few people ever dying while boxing when gloves weren’t allowed, it was only when they were allowed (for so called ‘protection’) that deaths increased. And no, sorry, I don’t have the source of that information with me today.
False sense of security around some protection methods?
Not a pretty post to make, but there you go… I’ve had my say.

Foot Reflexology for Sleep
During our recent Sleep With The Experts webinar series we heard about the Dantien point.
Today I’m going to speak about the Bubbling Well point and how you can massage it to help you fall asleep.
The Bubbling Well is a balance, weight, and energetic point located in the sole of the foot,
slightly in front of the arch and centered from side to side. In the meridian system it is the same as the Kidney 1 point.
The point has various names, Yong Quan, Kidney 1, Gushing Spring, Jing Well Point on the Kidney Channel, Wood Point on the Water meridian.
Its location is on the sole of the foot, between the second and third metatarsal bones, one-third of the distance from the webs of the toes to the heel.
Here is a good diagram of the Kidney Meridian and where it is on the sole of the foot.
Press on the Bubbling Well point in the middle of each foot
Pressing on this point with moderate pressure for 30-60 seconds helps to strengthen the kidneys and thus the water chi of the body.
The Chinese believe it cools the heart fire energy calming down the mind and helping you to fall asleep.
This point is very effective and can sometimes result in sleep as little as 30 seconds later.
The “three treasures” are the Bubbling Well, the Tan T’ien (Dantien) and the Crown of the Head.
The Chinese names of these are Shen, Chi and Ching. They represent the head/spirit, the breath (Tan T’ien or Dantien) and Essence (the pelvic centre and energetic foundation). It’s these three treasures that are involved with the superior person in the Chinese culture who Thinks, Feels and Does the same thing.
Don’t get the point confused with foot reflexology charts that show the kidney in a different spot on the sole of the foot. This is a different map (shown below)..
But it might convince you, looking at all those reflexology points, that while you are applying pressure to the Bubbling Well point, there might be other points on your feet that might enjoy a massage.
So go ahead, and give your whole foot a massage while you’re there, to inform other parts of your body before sleep as well.
It’s not necessary to massage hard, just recognise the point(s) and spend some time there.
Just wash your feet in preparation, and use some olive oit from the kitchen if you do not have witchhazel and massage oil with you at the moment.

The kidney area here is not the Bubbling Well Point
Generating Options to Your Stress
Hi Everyone
Today I’m drawing your attention to Andrew Verity and his technique for forcing our neurology to come up with different options for and to stress.
We learned about this during the Sleep With The Experts webinar series, but I’m pretty sure that not everyone is using this valuable technique. You can feel your mind re-shuffling when you do this, some of the eye modes feel a little bit challenged when you are visualising the problem there… that’s all good. Afterwards, you don’t really know what has happened, all you can feel is less ‘charge’ around the issue that you were working on.
Yep, it even looks a bit woo woo. But when you know that each of those eye mode points relates to a particular type of intelligence (mathematical, mental, musical, linguistic, personal, sexual, kinesthetic, emotional, etc) and brain function (ability to trust, awareness, imagination, learning and memory, understanding, respondability, recuperation, brain reward pathways, etc) you know that it is definitely worth the discipline!
Andrew (Verity) explained in his webinar that our minds (and reactions) are limited by our history, conditioning, previous responses, genetic patterning etc – so isn’t it worth introducing our subconscious minds to finding new ways to approach the stressors that effect our lives.
So here’s the link to the page with a very clear video demonstration:
http://www.stressreliefstrategiestips.com Go to the bottom of the page to Video 1 and watch through the demonstration. Open the accompanying comments box to find Andrew’s notes.
Sometimes I do this first think in the morning – particularly when I wake up and worry about all the things I have to do today! But just before you fall asleep would be excellent too. And try it when problems or anxieties come up during the day, before your presentation, etc).
It’s painless, creative and hugely beneficial to reduce stress, and maybe those new options that are being generated will improve our life in unexpected ways as well.
De-stress for better sleep and a better life. Tell me how you go with this.
Elizabeth
